We Tried It: The Honey and Epsom Salt Face Mask

Let's get hydrated.

Custom Swimsuits

Besides the pain of exercise itself, the biggest pain of swimming is the dry skin and hair. But don’t worry, this is the 21st century and a quick Google search will result in endless recipes for DIY masks and moisturizers. With so many options, we were left wondering which purported solutions would truly work, so we started experimenting!

Our first search returned an interesting mask called the Epsom salt and Honey Mask. Here are the incredibly simple directions:

Epsom Salt and Honey Face Mask

2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons Epsom salt
Mix the ingredients together and gently apply the mask to your face. Leave it on for a minimum of 30 minutes and then gently rinse off and pat your skin dry!

Are you kidding?! The only thing easier than a 2-ingredient mask is a pre-packaged moisturizer. This is the perfect combination of “DIY” and not actually “doing” much!

Honey and Epsom salt are common household products, so the mask hopefully does not require a trip to the grocery store for many of you. Convenience at its finest.

Following the recipe to make the mask is obviously incredibly easy, but be warned: You do not want to use the whole mixture with one mask.

Putting on a little too much results in a rather dramatic epsom salt avalanche. Trust us when we say you do not want to experience it. You can easily avoid this by either halving the recipe or saving some to use for future masks.

And, trust us when we say, you WILL want to do this mask again. We were more than ready to dismiss it because of the unfortunate facial avalanche situation. Plus, the mask tasted worse than it smelled: Not good.

But we digress.

The mask's results are stunning and more than make up for the slight discomfort and goopy-ness. The honey in the mask is extremely moisturizing, and the epsom salt immediately softens skin and treats acne. Talk about a one-two punch!

Simple and effective. A little messy but worth it. We give it a solid 8 out of 10!

8/10

By the way, we also tried a Honey and Aloe face mask, and you will definitely want to read about it too. Spoiler alert: If you liked this mask, you might LOVE the Honey and Aloe mask.
